Association

The Künstler*innen Vereinigung Tirol (Tyrol Artists’ Association) is a forum for art in Tyrol. It is a non-profit, politically independent association of visual artists based in Innsbruck. The association currently has 362 members (as of August 2025).
The purpose of the association is to represent, promote and protect the cultural, economic and social interests of visual artists, with particular consideration for diverse realities of life and social disadvantages.

The Artists’ Association Tyrol runs the following institutions:

  • Kunstpavillon
  • Neue Galerie in the Hofburg Innsbruck
  • Künstlerhaus Büchsenhausen

At the Kunstpavillon and the Neue Galerie, the Künstler*innen Vereinigung Tirol focuses on developing exhibition programmes that bring together international and regional artists and place relevant working methods and ways of thinking in a thematic context. Exhibitions, educational programmes and various events promote discourse between artists and the public. The annual programme consists largely of submissions from an annual open call. The aim is to create an active discourse and democratic access to the institutions.

In its important function as a representative of interests, the Künstler*innen Vereinigung Tirol focuses its political engagement on improving the socio-economic conditions of its members and the profession of visual artists in general.

The Künstler*innenhaus Büchsenhausen is a centre for production, research and discussion. It provides artists, curators, art critics and theorists with a platform that enables the development and production of artistic and art-theoretical projects in a critical context. The Künstler*innenhaus Büchsenhausen combines two support programmes under one roof. On the one hand, it is the venue for the Fellowship Programme for Art and Theory, in which graduate artists, curators and art theorists/critics come to Innsbruck for one to two semesters to work on their projects. On the other hand, it is a studio house for artists living in Tyrol who are looking for affordable workspace in an artistically interesting environment.

The Künstler*innen Vereinigung Tirol coordinates and oversees the funding programme Art in Public Space Tyrol of the Province of Tyrol. It handles the selection process and jury meetings, supports the artists in the implementation of their projects and acts as a point of contact for information and questions. www.koer-tirol.at
