The street “Winkelfeldsteig” is located in Ambras—a neighborhood in eastern Innsbruck. It is a place where different worlds (cultural, geographical, and temporal) converge and coexist side by side or in harmony: Here, living Tyrolean tradition—in the form of rural structures, customs, and clubs—meets a wide variety of cultures from around the world. Farmhouses stand side by side with shopping malls, and towering above them is the historic Ambras Castle, now a major tourist attraction. The DEZ shopping center can be described as a marketplace—a gathering place with a family-friendly atmosphere for young and old alike.
Since October 2012, the area has been connected to downtown Innsbruck via tram line 3. This is how the city and the village merge. The division of Ambras caused by the construction of the highway in the 1960s became a major concern for local residents due to noise pollution and air pollution. They had to live with increasing emissions for years. The tunnel and the noise barriers transformed the neighborhood back into a local recreational area, disturbed only by cell phone towers. The Winkelfeldsteig project is an attempt to highlight what is specifically “on-site”—to view the various “worlds” found here as coexisting on equal footing, which, ideally, will lead to harmony.
Exhibitions are open until the ende of December 2026.
The format PROJECT SPACE includes presentations of publications, readings, talks, project presentations, etc. by members of the association during exhibition-free periods in the Kunstpavillon or the Neue Galerie. PROJECT SPACES can also take place at any time in public spaces or at art-in-architecture projects. Members interested in organizing a PROJECT SPACE can contact us at office@kuveti.at.
