Open Call
Annual Programme 2027
Kunstpavillon & Neue Galerie
Thresholds
A society that is no longer capable of interpreting and understanding the systems around it enters a kind of state of shock, causing steadily growing sections of society to retreat into conservative and restrictive patterns. Misogyny as a practice that stabilises power is one of many symptoms of volatile times. The sense of losing control, presented as failed masculinity, is bringing authoritarian attitudes increasingly into the social mainstream.
In its annual programme 2027, Thresholds, the Künstler*innen Vereinigung Tirol will be dedicating itself to exhibitions and artistic positions that highlight counter-models or counter-cultural dynamics to this conservative, anti-modern and authoritarian backlash, and explore alternative strategies.
Keywords: democracy – complexity – flash crash – anti-modern tendencies – misogyny
SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 30.06.2026
The Institution
The Künstler*innen Vereinigung Tirol was founded in 1946 as a forum for contemporary art in Tyrol. In addition to representing the interests of visual artists, the Künstler*innen Vereinigung curates, organises and produces exhibition projects at the Kunstpavillon and Neue Galerie. The exhibition programme, which is largely based on an open, international call for submissions, encompasses all forms of contemporary art.
With these diverse agendas, the Künstler*innen Vereinigung Tirol promotes a diverse and valuable debate on art and society, international discourse and a high-quality exhibition programme. The jury will select up to five exhibitions from the submissions for the annual programme 2026. The exhibition period is from January 2027 to January 2028. The average duration of the exhibitions is 9-13 weeks.
Exhibition Venues
The Kunstpavillon is located a few minutes’ walk from Innsbruck city centre, in what is known as the “Kleine Hofgarten” [“Small Hofgarten”]. The building dates from 1842, when it was constructed as the summer residence of the state governor, and was adapted into a skylight gallery in 1950. The room measures approx. 175 m2.

The Neue Galerie comprises 95m2 exhibition space and is located on the ground floor of the Hofburg at the entrance to Innsbruck’s Old Town district. The historic vaults were completely renovated in 2011. In contrast to the Kunstpavillon, these rooms can be darkened easily for projections.

Submission Criteria & Selection Criteria
We endeavour to review each submission individually and with care, placing particular emphasis on its relevance to the announced thematic focus and the budgetary and logistical feasibility of the proposed project.
In recent years, we have noticed a steadily growing number of automatically generated submissions, which has pushed us to the limits of our time and resources. We advise interested artists and curators to not submit vague or generic project descriptions and to ensure they do not exceed the 500-word limit for the concept description.
Selection Process
All submitted projects are reviewed by the artistic directors of the Künstler*innen Vereinigung Tirol – Kunstpavillon and Neue Galerie as part of a multiphase review process. Applications that do not meet the call for entries criteria are eliminated at this stage of the process.
A three-person jury meets in person to review the remaining submissions and selects up to five projects for the annual programme. In doing so, the jury focuses on the artistic quality and originality of the submission, as well as on curating a balanced programme for the entire annual programme.
The selected projects will be contacted by autumn 2026 at the latest. The annual programme will be presented in early 2027. Selection is made regardless of nationality, ethnic or social background, age, disability, sexual identity or gender.
Submission deadline: 30.06.2026

Important, please note!
Entrants have no legal claim arising from their participation. The jury’s decision cannot be challenged. The jury reserves the right to select individual positions from group submissions or to propose group exhibitions from solo submissions. The jury reserves the right to allocate submitted projects to a specific exhibition venue (Kunstpavillon or the Neue Galerie). Late and incomplete submissions will not be included in the selection process. All applicants will be informed of the selection outcome by e-mail.Further information and frequently asked questions can be found here.
